• Best sold dish and why?

No need to hide the fact that our most sold dish is the original Wiener Schnitzel panfried in butter and served with potato salad and lingon berries.

Its a must have when visitig Melbourne and curious to explore Austrian cuisine.

  • Are you Austrian or German?

Are you a German restaurant? We certainly are Melbourne’s only Austrian restaurant. Of course the cuisine in Germany is very similar to Austria, and we try to please customers from both countries.

  • Which beer should I order?

You can not go wrong with any of our imported beers from Austria or Germany. Although we recommend one of the 3 exclusive taps only available with us in Australia! Trumer Lager and Zwickl (Gasthaus Bier) and Weihenstephan Dunkel.

  • Are there many Austrians and Germans in Melbourne?

Although very spread out over Melbourne it is a large community. If you are unsure you should join some of our events and meet with others.

  • Is the Gasthaus upstairs?

No! You are in Gasthaus on Queen. Downstairs and upstairs is the same menu and offering. Some prefer the bar setup and open kitchen downstairs to sit, others the normal restaurant setting upstairs. Please note that afternoons it is only downstairs.

  • Which Schnapps shall I order?

Since we import our own Schnapps from Austria, and currently offer 18 different varieties, you can not choose wrong. But to name one, try the Zirben Schnaps - pine cone schnapps which is literally the moonshine of Austria.

  • What is KREN?

Horseradish. We love it spicy with pork and sausages. Classic Austrian root to grow in your vegetable garden.

  • How big is the Bretzel?

You could possibly share it with someone. But why would you do that? Don’t forget the Liptauer on the side, a classic Austrian cheese spread.

  • What is this white stuff on my sausage?

It is a “mustard gherkin”. Perhaps you have heard of pickled gherkins aleady or seen them at our local store. We in Austria love to pickle any kind of vegetables.
